gladiators

“American Gladiators,” the show that ran from 1989 - 1996 featuring muscle strapped ‘Gladiators’ squaring off against your neighbor and other ‘everyday’ people in various forms of physical combat and competition, is set to return to T.V. in January on NBC.

I loved watching American Gladiators when I was kid. Every once in a while I’ll catch a rerun on ESPN Classic and see Zap and Nitro and Laser the American Gladiators shooting tennis balls from their cannon at somebody rolling and hopping behind those big plastic shields.

From the previews, the new American Gladiators seems like it’s been updated and modernized - and apparently contestants will be given time to train for their matches. So you’ll get to know the contestant before they actually compete - similar to many reality shows these days like The Ultimate Fighter and The Contender.

I’m not sure what the names of the gladiators are going to be, but I’m sure they’ll be something as equally cheesy as they once were, at least I hope so.

And maybe one of the new guys?
