Posted on Nov 16, 2007 under Movies |I just saw the sci-fi film by Jerome Bixby - The Man From Earth. This is one of the best, most thought provoking movies that I’ve seen in a while - probably since Children of Men.
It’s categorized as sci-fi, but really, there’s not too much sci-fi about it as far as action goes. In fact - the movie really only has one setting - the living room of the main character, John.
The movie starts out with John (a college professor) packing up his belongings to move away. A number of his professor friends stop by to see him off. None of them know where he is going, or why he is leaving.
They then begin to discuss the possibility of a man from the stone age - a cave man - living to present day. What would he be like? Would it be possible? Each of the professors has a specializes in a different field and lends their thoughts and ideas to the discussion.
Basically - John is telling them that he is a caveman that is 14,000 years old. The beauty of it is that there is no way for him to prove it’s true, and there is no way for them to prove it isn’t. Much of the movie contains this thought provoking discussion. Tempers and feeling flare and each of the characters tries to deal with what John is telling them.
The ending has a real climax that I thought worked really well. I won’t spoil it for anybody - but in my opinion, this is a must see movie for this year.
I’d like to see how this movie does with awards - it’s starting to catch a real buzz now and has moved up to number 6 on the IMDB charts.

hai,
“Man from Earth”, a movie which has spoken my mind. by chance i came across the movie today, and i was startled to see what i was thinking about, as a movie. the screenplay, script of the movie is excellent. outstanding performance by the actors.
about cinematography…..excellent. no other crew could match with the one that worked in this film.Excellent. a must see movie.
